Smithtown Library

Back in early 2008, Smithtown Library Director Robert Lusak and the Friends of Smithtown Library contacted Local 25 and asked for our assistance in getting support through the Nassau/Suffolk Building Trades for their district wide library building renovations. The bond proposal was to be put before the voters for a vote and the Friends of Smithtown Library were looking to gain as much support as possible for the project. The 22 million dollar bond was needed to perform major renovations at three locations with the fourth library build out being the complete refurbishment of the old Smithtown Armory on Terry Road in Nesconset.

The Business Office got actively involved speaking at 3 informational meetings across the town. Phone calls were used to help petition support and in the end, the bond referendum passed. Because of our efforts, the library district and the Nassau/Suffolk Building Trades were able to negotiate a PLA for the project which has been able to put many building trades members back to work. Local 25 itself received personal thanks from the Friends of Smithtown Library and Director Ron Lusak for our involvement in making the project a reality.
